Cities Must Remap Wards During 1971

The Huron County Board of Elections warns Norwalk Willard and Bellevue to reapportion wards by year end under one man one vote rulings. Ohio law allows redraw anytime but requires population based lines no later than 90 days after October 1 following the decennial census, risking wards without councilmen if not done. Mrs Hackett notes cities should reapportion before 1971 elections but aren’t required to.

Fourteen Huron County men drafted in 1971 lottery

Fourteen Huron County men left Norwalk at 6 30 this morning for induction in the first 1971 draft call. Leona Weisenberger of board 61 said many left with goodbye witnesses as the group headed to Cleveland for tests and physicals before assignment to duty stations. The next call is February 2 for 13 inductees.
