District Attorney Jim Garrison brought Clay Shaw to trial again to prove he lied to the jury that acquitted him of conspiring to assassinate President Kennedy. Shaw allegedly denied knowing Lee Harvey Oswald and David Ferrie, who are both dead.
A Filipino plantation owner and wife were robbed of 12923 in cash travelers checks and valuables while staying at a motel near Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. Two armed men restrained them and taped their mouths before fleeing.
United Auto Workers and Chrysler Corp. enter 24 hour negotiations to avert a strike by the Tuesday 10 a.m. deadline. UPI reports both sides push for a settlement as tension rises.
In Lorain Ohio two 15 year olds in a Vermilion cabin fire showed slight improvement while remaining in critical condition at St Josephs Hospital. Bruce Bennent thirteen corrections. The 16 year old victim was Bruce Bemnent, son of North Olmsted Fire Chief Ray A Bennent. Meanwhile in Bennettsville South Carolina two black gunmen plotting to kidnap the rich were in custody after a hostage exchange led to a shootout. Charles L Scales was wounded. Grover L Bennett fled then surrendered later.

Norwalk City Council is expected to approve placing a charter commission on the ballot on its third reading. Council members Hakes and Cunningham voice support, noting a charter could enable a full time city manager and business like governance, with voters to decide on May 4.

Mrs. Martha A. Rice, wife of former mayoral hopeful Michael C. Rice, filed for candidacy as a Republican for fourth ward councilman. Incumbent Democrat Robert Williams seeks re election. Rice is a former Norwalk schoolteacher and substitute teacher with young children. Hazel Sweet has already announced an independent mayoral bid.
The Rev. Quentin Battiste of St. Peter's Church reported theft of a cassock worth 25 dollars and a pulpit gown valued at 70 to 75 dollars from the sacristy. Police found no sign of forced entry and said the items could have been taken any time from Monday to Saturday.
