Murphy named Toledo head coach after 10 years at Heidelberg

John A. Murphy 38, a defensive specialist and Heidelberg head coach, is named head coach at the University of Toledo where he previously served as an assistant from 1960 to 1969. He succeeds Frank Lauterbur, who moves to Iowa after Toledo’s Tangerine Bowl victory over William and Mary.

The UAW gained a company union study on a four day 40 hour week as part of a tentative Chrysler contract. The agreement, announced before a possible walkout by 120,000 Chrysler workers, mirrors terms won from GM and Ford and includes wage increases and pension provisions.

Veteran Who Lost Leg In Viet Dies

Gary J. Heller 24 of Norwalk died unexpectedly Tuesday after hospital admission. A Vietnam Purple Heart recipient and left leg amputee, he served in the 1966 conflict and received a 1967 Veterans plaque. He worked as a bookkeeper and belonged to St. Paul Church and several veterans groups. Burial at St. Paul Cemetery followed funeral services at St. Paul Catholic Church.
