Huron County Fair prepares with ostrich race and barn
Huron County Fair Board works out last minute details for the fair running Aug 13 through 18. They voted to pay a 1500 roof repair bill after water leaks from the dining hall during the antique show. Eight mayors will race ostriches Friday night of fair week pulling small buggies. A century old barn frame is up with cedar shingles to follow, a saw mill will produce siding, and barn raisings will occur daily. The Monroeville FFA renovates the corn crib while homestead moves are explored. Del Donahoo will film an Agricultural Heritage feature Thursday afternoon with sheep shearing and square dancing. The Cattlemen’s Association gains a fall barbecue site with future dining hall use, and a large vacuum cleaner may be purchased for cleanups. Landscaping plans include trees for the Heritage area. The School Teacher Challenge proceeds fund scholarships of 300 and 250 dollars, with last year’s results guiding this year’s efforts.
