Rules for closing the municipal pool
Municipal Pool manager Bill Widman says there are no fixed rules or temperature limits. closures occur only with lightning or thunder, or when there are no swimmers. Lifeguards report daily and may go home if no swimmers remain after an hour, staying near home for quick recall. When only one to five swimmers remain, guards dismiss all but one or two. Evening sessions cut two 15 minute pool checks and close 30 minutes early at 8 30 to preserve pool time. A new self propelled vacuum cleans the pool in about three hours, hoisted three times weekly. it replaces prior methods and requires fewer staff.

Markets and pool vacuum issues noted in local brief
Markets Wednesday August 1 1979 list local wheat price 3.91 corn 2.70 oats 1.35 soybeans 7.28. A manual vacuum recirculates water twice weekly. Widman reports algae removal but suction pulls from pool bottom causing maintenance where it lodges in wheel tracks. Andrew Luxon Park Dept says problem will end next year after pool painting and tar scraping.
