Delay Of Levy Decision Rapped

The Huron County Board of Mental Health approved budgets for the next year calling for $22 030 more than current. Director Robert Klenk criticized the county commissioners for delaying a decision on placing a 0.5 mill mental health levy on the November ballot. He noted the board sought a prompt reply and blamed the absence of a third commissioner. The proposed levy would raise about $103 000, with $71 000 more than this year’s allocation. If approved the levy would replace the board’s current share in the health and welfare levy. The board planned to meet with commissioners to discuss the levy and relocating the Mental Health Center at Shady Lane Home as the county prepares to close the nursing home. The per capita state allocation is expected to rise to $2.66, but the board argues a $4.54 target is unrealistic. If the levy passes, about $35 500 more would come to the county in the latter half of the year. The budget also details increases for the Mental Health Center and fixed HOY funding while drug program support from the state is unchanged. The board also approved a resolution honoring Dr. George F. Linn, a longtime local physician and health commissioner.
