Notables Attend Opening of Kennedy Arts Center

Washington AP reports the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts opened with a high society preview to aid the disadvantaged. About 3,500 attendees paid 40 or 100 dollars each to fund access for youths and low income groups, marking the Sept. 1 premiere of an orchestral Bernstein work. Senator Edward M Kennedy praised the center as a beacon for creativity and inclusive access. The complex features a Hall of Nations and Hall of States leading to the Grand Foyer and a riverfront terrace, with a 100 foot ceiling height and expansive architecture noted by guests including Victor Borge.
