Miami University President urges higher state support in inflation fight
Miami University President Phillip R. Shriver told the Ohio Senate Finance Committee that state subsidies per student have not kept pace with inflation for 1972-73 compared with 1971-72. He noted Miami's per student subsidy is $8 lower in real dollars than five years ago and urged lawmakers to raise beyond the proposed five percent expenditure increase to preserve education quality and expand services at Oxford, Hamilton, and Middletown campuses.

Carlisle Navy ROTC program eyed for high school
Principal Ronald Bingaman sent for Navy application forms to start a Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps at Carlisle High School possibly in 1974 75. The plan would admit girls and boys with one elective credit per year from sophomore to senior year and require minimum signups plus future enrollment targets. A retired naval officer and a retired enlisted man would help teach and supervise while a senior scholarship to a college with Navy ROTC would be awarded. A drill team would form with ROTC student participation as Way and Bingaman visited Great Lakes to review materials and plan electronics coursework.
