Franklin council duo opt not to seek re election
Franklin two of three City Council members up for term expiration this year announced they will not run again. Gerald Miller joined Joe Baxter Jr. in non candidacy, while Harold Callahan has not declared. Baxter, an engineer and marketing consultant for Black Clawson Co., was elected in 1965 and 1969 and helped bring Bernard Eichholz to lead city planning. Miller, also elected in 1965 and 1969, helped organize the Zoning Board of Appeals and served on ad hoc committees since 1955, noting progress like two new city buildings and upgrades to police fire and street departments. He cites missed goals such as Riley Boulevard completion, a city swimming pool, and a new bridge across the river.
