Communists agree to U.S. demands on Laos prisoner release

The Pathet Lao said they would free American prisoners held in Laos at any date the U S military and civilian captives are released, but gave no date. The dispute blocks release of 139 other U S prisoners. Hanoi and Saigon discuss dates, with North Vietnam listing 107 prisoners to be freed if troops resume withdrawal.

Farm output boost urged as food bill rises

Washington AP reports that rising food prices continue to lift farmer gains and press the Nixon administration to boost crop and livestock output in 1973. An Agriculture Department note says the annual family food bill climbed by 34 dollars last month and signals possible changes to 1973 acreage programs to encourage more corn and soybeans.

Housing costs rise as U S to boost lumber supply

Cost of Living Council Director John T Dunlop told a Senate subcommittee that the administration will seek to increase lumber supply and voluntary restraints on Japanese timber purchases to curb soaring housing costs. He noted possible reimposition of forest products price controls and efforts to boost railroad freight car availability, while avoiding a direct stance on Sen Packwoods bill to ban log exports by 1977.

Dzu Freed by Saigon After Five Years Imprisoned

Truong Dinh Dzu, once a top political prisoner in South Vietnam after finishing second to Nguyen Van Thieu in 1967, was released after nearly five years. The 56 year old lawyer, now tired and ill from a heart condition, declined to speak to reporters.
