Land Reform in Cuba Deemed a Failure by Exile Service
The AIP Cuban exile information service reports Cuba's land reform as a failure. It notes confiscation of 161 sugar mills and best cane plantations reduced output from a 1959 harvest of 5.7 million tons to an expected 1964 level well below 1963’s 3.8 million. It cites decline in sugar revenue from 578 million dollars in 1958 to 250 million in 1961 and current losses, with cattle poultry and tobacco also described as disastrous.
