Boston AP report says John Wayne rose for the first time since open heart surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital and ate solid food again. Hospital spokesman Martin Bander says convalescence remains on schedule as well wishers flood in. Presidents Carter and Bob Hope are among those sending messages. A Massachusetts Senate message commends his service to veterans. Surgeons replaced a heart valve using a pig tissue prosthesis during the procedure.
