Congressmen E Bad Viet Nam Decision
Harsh criticism came from Senate critics of the administration's Viet Nam policy while Democrats and Republicans largely backed Johnson. The President doubled the draft and boosted U S troop strength from 75 000 to 125 000 with more to follow. Johnson outlined replacements and urged Congress to back the plan amid worries about the undeclared war and the need to defend free institutions.
