Governors Back LBJ Policy as States Rally Support

Auto Surety Rate Debate at Austin Hearing

Insurance industry spokesmen and Texas regulators defended a 13.4 percent auto coverage rate hike as necessary due to rising claim costs. Labor leaders Hank Brown and Roy Evans, represented by Bert Bader and Sam Houston Clinton Jr., argued the board overestimates expenses and should consider investment income in rate setting. Welch Foundation grants million to Texas Tech chemistry chair

A $1 million endowment from the Robert A. Welch Foundation of Houston will fund a professorship in chemistry at Texas Tech. The gift, the largest in Tech history, will support a distinguished professor's salary and research, with annual income of $40,000 to $60,000. A national search will begin for the Welch professor to raise Tech's stature and aid future facilities, including a chemical research building.

Plains Cotton Growers adopt 1965 66 budget
