Lake Erie expected harmful algal blooms this summer
NOAA forecasts moderate blooms in western Lake Erie with biomass levels between 4.5 and 6 on a 1 to 10 scale. A small risk of a high-intensity event in July could push blooms toward a 7, based on data from 2012 through 2023. The forecast was released at a conference hosted by Ohio Sea Grant and Ohio State University Stone Laboratory.

Avon festival ends Banana Derby act after PETA concern
Organizers of the Avon Summer Festival dropped the Banana Derby act after PETA critique. Capuchin monkeys strapped to dogs raced on a track at Crushers Stadium from June 14 to 23, with twice daily weekday shows and three shows on weekends. The event was run by KevaWorks, an event management company.

Amherst Sues ODOT Over Rt 2 Upkeep
Amherst sues the Ohio Department of Transportation in Franklin County Common Pleas Court over who pays for maintenance, repairs and snow and ice removal on Route 2 within Amherst. The 1963 agreement requires ODOT to cover state costs while Amherst pays 2000 dollars yearly. ODOT threatens to stop plowing unless the contract is renegotiated. Trial date not set.
