Suspect appeals in tape recorded killing
Seattle police detective David T. Smith 33 was found guilty of first degree murder for killing Nicholas G. Kyreacos 26 in an alley on Nov 20. A taped recording of the shooting, hidden under Kyreacos clothing, was played to the jury three times prompting an appeal on admissibility. Kyreacos widow and stepdaughter filed a 1.1 million claim against the city.

Shelling continues on Golan as talks loom
United Press International reports intensified artillery exchanges along the Golan Heights cease fire lines between Israel and Syria.
