J Bob Traxler captured the 8th District seat in seven counties with 59 918 votes to 56 898 for James Sparling Jr aided by a Watergate era morality frame. President Nixon and DNC officials commented on the loss while Ford warned of a possible Democratic dominance and legislative dictatorship.
About 150 supporters from the Miguelito area challenged a district committee’s plan to close Miguelito and another campus to save roughly 94000 dollars. Trustees indicated support for some closures to address a six year enrollment drop, with public hearings set for late April and early May.
UPI report says Attorney General Saxbe called Patricia Hearst a common criminal and a willing participant in the $10,000 Low branch bank robbery by the Symbionese Liberation Army. He cited witness testimony and bank observations while noting she is a fugitive.
The State Board of Equalization reported a more than 1 million dollar increase in Lompoc's fourth quarter 1972 taxable sales. Total taxable sales reached 13,181,000 compared with 12,074,000 in the prior quarter.
President Nixon is willing to campaign again for Republican candidates if invited, despite the Michigan 8th District loss by James Sparling. White House spokesman Gerald L. Warren said Nixon was not dismayed and would help any candidate who runs hard on the issues, emphasizing he will not turn away from opportunities to assist.

The Lompoc City Council approved a $10,000 interior refurbishment study for City Hall Auditorium to serve as a permanent council chamber. A separate vote began gauging public opinion on building a new city hall or civic center. The auditorium plan includes ceiling removal, fixed seating, a new sound system, and improved display areas.
Lompoc residents Dick Wilson teacher at Vandenberg Junior High School his wife Gail and Lompoc pilot Dale Anderson were hospitalized in Louisiana after a forced landing near Shreveport. The Wilsons three children Sharon Ann and Steven were unhurt. Wilson fractured his back and Gail suffered lesser injuries. Anderson is in good condition with undisclosed injuries. Mrs Wilson expected to return to Lompoc soon. The plane ran out of fuel on approach to the airport while returning from a family Easter visit to Miami Florida.
Special Prosecutor Leon Jaworski and the House Judiciary Committee request 17 Nixon Watergate conversations from April 14 to 17, 1973, as part of a broader subpoena for 41 tapes. The move follows prior court action on subpoenas for 64 meetings and discussions in the Watergate case.
