Riots burn bank and school in Oxnard suburb
In Oxnard Sunday night riots sparked by 150 youths destroyed the Bank of A. Levy with Molotovs and set Juanity Elementary School ablaze. A pharmacy burned as police and sheriff units and 25 officers cleared a four square mile Colonia area. no injuries reported.

A cold air system over the Great Lakes spawned tornadoes and damaging winds across the Midwest with related destruction. One tornado struck a trailer court near Eau Claire Wisconsin killing one and injuring at least two after uprooting 12 mobile homes. A second tornado hit Princeton Minnesota leveling fields and uprooting trees while a third was sighted near Greenfield Missouri. Lightning killed four cyclists in Red River New Mexico during a sudden storm. Severe winds up to 68 mph were reported in Moline Illinois Kirksville Missouri and other towns along with flash flood alerts in Ohio Valley counties.
