Self-sufficiency at La Morada School for Girls

La Morada in Santa Barbara County opened in July 1963 as California’s first open residence for teenage girls on county property. The facility uses a flexible, non secure model with no walls or fences, offering school attendance, vocational tasks, and volunteer opportunities led by director Faith W. Ryan and a trained staff.
