Place of Hope at the Lompoc Community Development Center

The 50 year old woman and her two grandchildren receive aid from the Lompoc CDC at 1125 E Ocean, funded by the Office for Economic Opportunity and run by the Community Action Commission. Center staff advise welfare steps, provide language support, and coordinate food, clothing, and transportation assistance through local agencies.

Inaugural Night of Nixon Celebrations and Jokes

President Nixon left crowds of 30 000 revelers after a day of inaugural events. He toured seven balls at six venues with Pat and daughters Tricia and Julie. The president joked about all nine Supreme Court justices dancing to the same tune and said Americans are good people as he closed the night saying the nation can be worthy of its great goodness.

Drive to equip Ken Adam Park sparks community drive

Valley wide interest in the new Ken Adam Park on Lom poc Casmalia Road spurs a campaign to raise funds or donate playground gear and trees. George H. Adams county parks director lists junior and senior merry grounds swing sets a drinking fountain barbecue tables and pits plus Monterey pine trees. Ray Stalker coordinates the drive and will accept money in lieu of items, with service clubs and individuals invited to participate via Stalker at Stalker’s Men's Store in Lompoc or Adams in care of the county parks department.

Bradford man swallows seven pennies after bet

Trevor Layte of Bradford rested in a local hospital after swallowing seven pennies on a dare. He called police reporting stomach pain claiming a single penny. doctors confirmed seven coins in his stomach and treated him.

Lompoc Officer to Train With Norwegian Forces in Norway

Lieutenant James D. Roberts of Lompoc and Staff Sergeant Lyle D. Drake of Clinton Illinois from Fort Devens 10th Special Forces Group will attend the Vinter skolen for Infantriet in Teringenmoen Norway. The Norwegian Home Guard will teach winter survival navigation shelters and camouflage as the pair ski about 1000 miles in 10 below zero temperatures. Roberts is Commanding Officer of Detachment A-19 and has served with USAREUR Seventh Army Troops earning the Combat Infantryman Badge Parachutist Badge and Bronze Star with V. He and his wife Carla reside at Fort Devens.

Johnson back in Texas after presidency ends at Stay

Lyndon B. Johnson returns to private life in Texas after 38 years in public service and five years and 59 days as president. He greets 5000 Texans at Bergstrom Air Force Base with Lady Bird and daughters Luci and Lynda. He smiles at freedom from security and vows to ride the range at his Texas ranch.
