Former Airox Plant Meets Controls With New Equipment

Pozzolan Products Inc Casmalia plant under county conditional use permit will replace open pit burning with new equipment. Contract with Copeland Process Corp calls for delivery and start-up within six months, target July, within November 12 1969 burn ban. Estimated cost 400000 to 500000. Plant formerly Airox Inc shut briefly due to smoke controls.

Cordes 25, formerly of Lompoc, died in Reno and served in Vietnam. widow Mary and family mourn him. Former legislator James L. Holmes dies in Sacramento

James L. Holmes 62 a five term Republican Assemblyman for the 36th district died yesterday in Sacramento after being found in his sleep. An autopsy will follow. He lived in Santa Barbara since 1938 and was active in Shriner circles and the Sheriff's Civil Service Commission. He is survived by Ruth his wife, a brother and two sisters. Funeral Monday at 2 30 p m at McDermott Crockett Mortuary Santa Barbara.

The White House informs Santa Barbara County officials that President Nixon will not establish a weekend retreat in the South Coastal area near Carpinteria. Ehrlichman writes the decline citing recent Florida home purchase and proximity to Washington as reasons, noting offshore oil slicks in the area.

Genovese Dies in Federal Prison at 71

Vito Genovese longtime Mafia leader dies at 2 30 a.m. in Springfield Missouri federal prison of congestive heart failure. He was 71 and serving a 115 year narcotics sentence. He helped run the Cosa Nostra from behind bars and faced a 1959 narcotics conspiracy conviction. Genovese born in Italy.
