Lompoc Plans Public Hearings On Zoning And New Environmental Panel

The Lompoc Planning Commission will hold two hearings tonight to consider a zoning amendment allowing Roy Velasquez to operate a material storage yard at 333 N Second St and a zone change for use permits in hospitals and similar buildings. They will also discuss selling produce from mobile equipment in commercial zones and proposals for an Environmental Quality Commission. In Santa Barbara Superior Court, Judge Charles S. Stevens Jr. will be sworn in April 30 at the Santa Barbara Courthouse to fill the vacancy created by Judge C. Douglas Smith. Stevens, 57, formerly a deputy district attorney and County Bar Association president, has 28 years of practice and will earn 33396 annually. he plans to liquidate his private practice by the start date. He is slated to use the former courtroom of Judge John T. Rickard, who moves to a new permanent space formerly the county personnel offices.

Manuel Romero age 60 died Friday at his home 517 S G Street Lompoc memorial services were held at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery Today The Lompo native born June 16 1910 is survived by brother Felix Romero of San Diego Local arrangements were handled by McPeek Family Mortuary.

Police probe four burglaries in Lompoc report

Lompoc police investigate four burglaries including a loss of a $2700 platinum diamond sapphire ring and other jewelry from a residence. Also stolen were a .38 caliber firearm coins and a silver band. A cafe coin machine and pool table were robbed at the San Martin Cafe.

Bumper sticker owners hospital visit linked to scare

Dennis Sturm of Mesa Arizona hospitalized at Lompoc District Hospital after heart attack. The bumper sticker from a Vistas Record cover came to light as Sturm's room shared with Mrs. Harvey Betty’s husband, both recovering. Sturm, a barber by trade and baritone in SPEBSQSA, credits visits from local barbershop groups and a Canadian colleague for support during his stay.

Three hurt in Lompoc weekend traffic accidents

Three people suffered minor injuries in two Lompoc traffic crashes over the weekend. Anna Jean O'Daniel, 25, of Newcastle Del., was injured Friday when her car collided with Marion Ballote Viloria, 59, of Lompoc. The crash happened near Maple Avenue and Street shortly before 9 p.m. O'Daniel was treated at Lompoc Hospital. Viloria's car traveled west on West Maple Avenue while the other was south on North I Street. both vehicles suffered major damage.

Accident injures two in Pine Avenue collision

Mars Thomas Essary, 63, of 701 E Pine Ave Space 77, and Marlys June Swanson, 47, of 1536 W Pine Ave, suffered minor injuries when their cars collided at Pine Avenue and P Street around 9 a.m. authorities said.

Fire burns ranch garage and outbuildings near Lompoc

A fire at Frank Lewis Ranch seven miles east of Lompoc on Highway 246 destroyed a double garage a bunkhouse and six storage sheds. A nearby house was scorched slightly and equipment in the sheds damaged. No injuries reported with cause and total loss undetermined. Fire began about 5 30 p m yesterday. In a separate item volcano warnings kept tourists away from Mt Etna Sicily as lava activity continued.

Teachers to present salary plan to school board

Teachers from the district will present their first salary proposal to the school board in the opening round of the annual budget talks. Trustees have until June 8 to adopt the 1971-72 budget and may refer the proposals to the Certificated Employe Council for review and discussion.

Housing Authority pays in lieu taxes totals $20834.20

The Housing Authority of Santa Barbara County paid in lieu taxes totaling $20,834.20 to county, city and school districts. Lompoc Gardens taxes were $2,056.80 with breakdowns of city $278.49 district $100.99 school $1,156.33 and county $520.99. Lompoc Terrace taxes were $2,403.80 with district $118.03 school $1,351.42 and county $608.88.
