Planners to hear of airport aid in Lompoc briefing

State aeronautics officials Fred Steward and F G Lemke will visit Lompoc Monday to brief the Planning Commission on the State Airport Assistance Revolving Fund. They will explain how state aid complements federal programs for small airports and discuss the County Master Plan of Airports. The commission will hold a public hearing after the briefing.

Nixon cuts Pacific air routes to save costs

President Nixon ordered six revisions to Lyndon Johnson’s Pacific route awards after a White House review found the plans economically unviable. Paramount man Edward Goodwin 49 attempted to cash a $2 win bet on a Hollywood Park horse in the fifth race at Golden State Bank in SOUTHGATE California. Witnesses alerted police when he handed the ticket at a teller window and officers arrested him nearby. He was found with 33 cents and $3,042 and booked on suspicion of armed robbery.

Court order halts Santa Barbara high rise project

A Superior Court stay on Wednesday blocked an $8.5 million high rise proposal in central Santa Barbara. Judge John Rickard signed the order after a petition by attorney John Sink. A May 5 hearing at 10 a.m. was set in the county courthouse. Opponents allege the 4-2 council vote on March 25 granted El Mira sol Investment Co. a special economic benefit via a height variance. The plan envisions two nine story condominiums at 107 feet, exceeding the current three story limit.

Goleta zoning plan for 75 unit low income housing faces court test

Board of Supervisors approved a rezoning for a five acre Goleta parcel to a residential classification for a 1.1 million 75 unit low income project funded by the Federal Housing Authority. Kellogg Homes Improvement Assn contends the Goleta Valley Housing Committee did not exist to seek county approval and may appeal within 180 days. The County Planning Commission had endorsed the rezoning unanimously and the supervisors voted 3 to 1 to back the recommendation.
