Burchard 4-H'er of the month spotlight
Shawn Burchard, 15, of the Dawson County 4-H Horse Club, earns September 4-H’er of the month honors. A three-year club member and 1980 high scorer and saddle winner, he is a Lamesa High School sophomore active in choir and Northridge Methodist youth programs. His hobbies are snow skiing and horseback riding, with plans for college and equestrian activities.

United Methodist Women Host Salad Luncheon
The Fellowship Hall of First United Methodist Church hosted a salad luncheon on Thursday September 24 attended by fifty five members and guests. Viola Trice UMW president chaired the meeting while program chair Mary Lane Peterson introduced Shirley Kouitz of Klondike Home Economics Instructor who led the program. FHA members Roxanne Airhart Angie Airhart Amber Echols Susan Holcomb Sally Arrendondo Cheryl Williams and Diana Iglesia participated. Bettye Metzger closed with a prayer.

County approves poison purchase in Dawson County
Dawson County Commissioners tentatively approved 205.68 for rat poison to supply 24 cases totaling 384 pounds for city distribution. Health official Jim Roberts said the 411.36 cost would be shared with the city as no rat control funds exist for either entity.

Dawson homecoming honors 1966 class at Welch
Dawson ISD will honor the class of 1966 during homecoming activities in Welch on Friday evening. Activities start at 5 p.m. with a chili supper, and the six man Dawson Dragons meet Southland at 7 p.m. The halftime ceremony crowns the queen from four nominees, with the football sweetheart and pep club beau named. A dance and reception with Armadillo Flats music follow the game.
