Otis Pharr fell ill during Sunday school and returned home after a brief stay at Rev. W. H. Norris's house. He suffered influenza but recovered enough to go home. The report notes Rev. Norris facing a cold and Mrs. Ruby Jeter recovering from flu.
The church week lists Sunday School at 9 45 a m and morning service at 11 a m with evening service at 7 p m. A note mentions Howard Hamlin opening a new bake shop with growing pastry sales and a plan for wholesale and decorative cakes.
Ladies of the Church of Christ gathered Tuesday afternoon for the regular weekly study led by L. H. Ousley. Twenty two members attended the session focusing on the third lesson in the New Testament. The group follows a systematic outline and several visitors joined the meeting.
ABILENE dates for the 21st annual West Texas Chamber of Commerce convention are May 15 16 and 17. The meeting will be the largest annual gathering of its kind in the world and will be held in Abilene this year.
Roy Yarbrough of Hobbs was appointed this week by Governor John E. Miles as State Oil and Gas inspector in the Hobbs oil conservation office. He succeeds Ross Walker, taking office Wednesday. Willie Yoakum went to Fort Worth on business over the week end.
Lord's day worship and Bible study schedule led by L H Gusley with two new members joining after his sermon. Local residents raffle updates include Meyers attending a band director clinic in Houston, travel for Bostecks, Crory surgery next Wednesday, Lane Turner visiting Grandfalls, knitting club, Chrestmans visiting Brownfield and El Paso, and Wilbur Ray Stuart's knee injury with medical treatment and recovery.
Mrs Baldwin of Eunice visited Mrs Jimmie Cowan on Tuesday, sharing greetings and social time in the community.
The Sub Deb Club met at Rose Mary Norris's home and voted in four new members after a three week initiation. Charter members include Mary Lou Betty Rose Mary Norris Nada Ruth Buffington and Madera Hughes. New inductees are Wanda Booth Marjorie Marshall Frances Butler and Lenora House.
