A columnist decries an inactive majority in America and urges readers to reclaim responsibility. He argues people lack participation, belief in institutions, and moral standards, misplacing blame while avoiding self-scrutiny. The piece ends with a call to become active, restore confidence, and pursue strong purpose.
Cleanup crews moved in June 4 to 2620 Bell-Wick in Hubbard Township to clear years of debris from William Ondo’s property near newly built homes. Township officials led by Zoning Inspector Eli Moga reported barbed wire obstacles and vehicle blocks but proceeded, removing four truckloads of junk including scrap metal, plastic tubing, and hundreds of rotted windows. Costs, landfilling fees, and a police presence were arranged, with liens potential if Ondo fails to pay and an ongoing inspection to verify complete cleanup.
Christopher Dulya of Hubbard was elected to Sigma Pi Sigma, the national physics honor society, at Youngstown State University. He is a junior, among three YSU students named, meeting upper class ranking and physics course criteria.
Federal Wholesale workers strike began June 1 on Myron Street with replacement efforts and several incidents. A court order limited picket lines to six per entrance, and another banned blocking entrances. Negotiations between 105 union members and company leaders lasted hours without a deal, while mediation praised conduct on both sides.
The law director cited a settlement to end disputes over a sewer line north of the city. City ownership would cost 225000, a figure reflecting a lower rate than earlier nine percent terms. Hubbard could recoup via 2000 potential tap ins, while court routes might have cost 375000 to 400000. If new users join, they pay and the line becomes the city's.
