Whitmer signs bills aiding veterans license reciprocity
Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed laws to ease licensing for veterans active-duty service members and dependents moving into the state. Out-of-state professional licenses can be issued with waivers for initial application fees, expanding existing veteran waivers to more groups as Michigan aims to raise its skilled workforce to 60 percent by 2030. Zeneta Adams said the move welcomes service members and supports employment for 550,000 veterans and families statewide. Gen. Paul Rogers praised bipartisan support and noted Michigan hosts 11,000 National Guard members plus reserves and active-duty personnel annually.

Bill waivers for restaurant licenses could hit local health budgets
Michigan Senate bills would waive annual food service licensing fees for 973 establishments in Ingham County, 513 in Barry and Eaton, and 540 in Mid-Michigan District Health Department, risking local health departments losing hundreds of thousands of dollars without offsetting revenue. Health officials urge a funding mechanism to fill the potential budget hole as bills move through the House.
