Regents seek 185 million for Iowa colleges in 49 percent rise
Capitol News Weekly reports the Iowa Board of Regents asks the legislature for 185 million dollars in appropriations, a 61 million increase over current funding. The request boosts the U Iowa, Iowa State, and State College by 57 percent, the Braille and Sight Saving School by 16 percent, and the School for the Deaf by 17 percent. Regent Ned Perrin warns overreaction, suggesting 25 percent might be more realistic. The board also adopts a merit system to avoid directing institutions into a statewide civil service. Kenneth C. Crabb, former Iowa Press Association president and longtime Iowa publisher, has died.

Non-resident loses ag land tax credit case in Polk County
Polk County Judge Wade Clark ruled that a non-resident is not entitled to agricultural land tax credits after several out-of-staters who own Iowa farm land challenged the law passed by the last legislature limiting ag land tax payments to Iowa residents. The opinion is expected to be appealed to the Iowa Supreme Court.

The Republican State Central Committee re elected Robert Ray a Des Moines lawyer as state chairman for a two year term beginning December 1963.
