He suggests the merchants harvest hay and keep wives home. A radio forecaster predicts a heat spike with highs over 100, cooling later, cheering corn on the cob voters.
Construction of the Type B asphaltic concrete surfacing is finished on all 24 miles programmed for 1966. Earth shouldering will start in two weeks through Clarksville. Traffic will be allowed with caution during shoulder construction. two bridges east of Clarksville near completion and the road will open to traffic Thursday, July 14.

Mr and Mrs Don Feldman of Greene welcomed a son on Wednesday July 6 at Floyd County Veterans Memorial Hospital Charles City. Tim Allan Feldman weighs 8 pounds 7 ounces and joins siblings Robin and Troy at home. Grandparents are Marvin Bruns and Fred Feldman.
Greene residents endure several days of temperatures in the high 90s as a heat wave grips the area. A rainfall over 2 inches on Friday and nearly 2 inches on Saturday offered brief cooling, with Friday’s totals ranging from over 1 inch south of Greene to nearly 3 inches north, and Saturday measuring 1 to 2 inches.
Auditions for the Venita Rich Talent Contest Revue occur Monday July 18 from 3 to 10 p.m. at Allison High School. Twenty acts will be chosen for the Butler County Fair show August 1, with the winner earning transport to New York City for Ted Mack and the Original Amateur Hour.

A new twenty five member NIAD Culture Study Committee including Norman Graven and Mrs. B V Andersen of Greene has been formed to study early emphasis areas. It may hold its first meeting in the future and invites ideas from NIAD citizens.
LeAnn Wilken daughter of Mr and Mrs Dale Wilken will enter University Hospital in Iowa City next Monday for five days of treatment Mrs Wilken will accompany her in Iowa City
Max Dougherty announced junior lifesaving for ages 12 to 16 and senior lifesaving for 16 and up starting Monday July 18 at 9:00 am. Last year’s students all passed and those 16 who passed junior may advance. Schedule: Monday 9 to 12, Wednesday Thursday Friday 11 to 12, Saturday 9 to 12. A new schedule will follow.
Mr and Mrs V J Tatum returned Wednesday July 6 from Miami Beach Florida where Mr Tatum served as delegate from the North Central District of the I S BE A to the National Education Association convention Supt and Mrs Dale Mulford of Grundy Center joined them They visited Citrus Tower Cape Kennedy Daytona Beach and the Great Smoky Mountains despite frequent rain during the trip

Mr and Mrs August Heeren with John Heeren from Shell Rock Bill Heeren and Herman Heeren of Alison and Mr and Mrs Adéo Jansen of Clarksville left Waterloo by train for New York City last Wednesday Then by boat to Germany on July 8 to visit relatives for weeks They will sail home by boat late August A bon voyage picnic hosted by Mr and Mrs Ivan Clikeman on July 3 welcomed forty five relatives and friends from Greene and Rockford
Michael Brunsma visited with Bob Walton of Sandwich Massachusetts and Wally Severson of Milwaukee Wisconsin. They spent the Fourth of July weekend at the Brunsma parents home while stationed at Grand Forks Air Force Base in Grand Forks North Dakota.
The Greene JayCees hosted a Coffee Stop over the July 4th weekend welcoming over 350 travelers. Donuts and cookies came from local stores while coffee and kool-aid were purchased by the JayCees. Plans call for another event on Labor Day weekend.
A record 1,176 people attended Greene’s swimming pool on Sunday, from noon until closing, including adults and children. It was the highest admission since the pool opened last summer.
The Greene Ramblers defeated Allison 12 to 1 and Hampton 6 to 0 to reach the high school summer sectional baseball final at Thornton, facing the CAL-Sheffield winner tonight. Lynn Gabe pitched both games with strong defense behind Drake, Bohlen, and Codner on the batteries.
Minnie Groothuis aged 4 died Friday July 8 at a Manchester Nursing Home. Survived by two sons John Greene and Fred Groothuis and daughter Mrs Dwayne Smith of Manchester. Funeral Monday at 1 30 p m at Hitesville Gospel Hall. Burial in Hitesville Cemetery.
Ellis Bammann returned Sunday July 3 from St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Mason City where he underwent treatment. He will recuperate at home for several weeks under doctor's care.
The Yankees beat the Orioles 10 to 6 as Bryan Trees hit a three run homer and other key blows came from Steve Reed Dave Eimers and Steve Stanton. Joe Shultz pitched a one hitter for the Braves in a 4 to 2 win over the Giants. The Dodgers defeated the Indians 9 to 4 led by Mike Adams two triples and a single as Terry Schoenfeld debuted for the Dodgers. Next Tuesday the Yankees face the Braves Giants meet Indians and Orioles square with the Dodgers.
The Babe Ruth squad captured the league crown with a 2 to 1 extra inning victory over Nora Springs, moving to 11 straight wins. Greene’s Little Leaguers, led by Dave Eimers, dropped to 10–2 but remained one game behind Nashua, who led 9–1. Rich Siemens threw the extended game for the Babe Ruth team, while Nashua and Greene posted multiple tight contests and shared pitching duties as the season progressed.
Glen Bandel, new minister of the Church of Christ in Mason City, will attend as the soft ball fundraiser features a 8:00 pm Sunday July 17 event. Mothers of the T Shirt League face their sons in a three inning game, followed by a match between older local women and the winner. Proceeds aid summer programs and Twins trip plans.
Robert D. Wildman of Richland Washington chief of radiations sciences at the Atomic Energy Commission will receive a year of graduate study in public policy and management. He was chosen from 60 federal employees for the award by the National Institute of Public Affairs and will attend the University of Indiana in September.

Mrs Gale Frerichs, long treated at Clark Rest Home, has entered Floyd County Veterans Memorial Hospital in Charles City for further medical care.
The Greene Fire Department and Town Council authorize two long blasts on the town siren when a tornado or cyclone is sighted. Citizens should call the fire department immediately with funnel location and travel direction, but only if a funnel is seen. Two long blasts mean tornado warning.
Greene earned his Sth win in as many starts while striking out 16 and walking 3. Greene scored in the 2nd as Wunsch and Schuknecht collected hits and Katcher walked to load the bases. The winning run came in the 8th when Brunsma scored after an error, Wunsch singled, and Schuknecht lined one to right. Greene heads to Marble Rock Thursday to host Rockford Monday.
Victor Stauffer 67 died unexpectedly at his farm home July 5. Born in 1898 near Greene he married Jennie Ewen in 1933. Survived by wife, son Lloyd, a brother John, five sisters and others. Funeral at First Methodist Church Greene with Rev. Gjerde. interment Rose Hill Cemetery. Reid's Funeral Chapel in charge.
Here From Holland Mr. and Mrs. John Yzer of Denhelder Holland arrived by plane on Tuesday July 5 for a visit with his uncle and wife Mr. and Mrs Jerry Siemens. They flew from Amsterdam to New York and then Chicago where they were met by Mr. and Mrs Jerry Siemens and Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Siemens. They will visit here until August 16.
May savings of Series E and H bonds in Towa reached the highest May total in a decade, with Butler County at 47 percent of its 1966 quota. Statewide five month sales total $55,675,493, 50 percent of goal, the Midwest’s highest. John McWhirter of Allison reported Butler County May sales at $45,313, lifting its five month total to $385,258 for 47 percent of 1966 quota.
