Greene locals recount summer visits and family gatherings
Ms. Ben Weyand and Christy and Joe from Imperial Beach California arrived August 2 to visit Mrs Weyand and Dell Curtis. They will return August 26. Mr Fern Christensen from Hampton spent the weekend with his son. Mr and Mrs Willem Christensen and family, Gladys Maller, Sten Reese and Ja Bristow and Doules Marsh visited Mrs Faber Miller of Cedse Rapids. The Millis had two birthdays with Ja turning 1 and Faber Jr.’s birthday August 1. Mr and Mrs Emmett Meander and Mrs Clifford of Elma were there all day Monday August 1. Mr and Mrs Dell celebrated old Chaplain Donald Neely and firm spent last week at Mrs Grace Barnhart. The Neelys travel from Fort Lewis to Fort Hamilton, N Y for nine months at Clarence Shatzer’s home. Mrs Eugene Shatzer of Chambersburg, Pa and Leonard Shatzer and son of St Thomas, Pa visited. Mrs Ed Marven was honored at a belated birthday dinner at Jolix Troil in Mason City last Tuesday August 32. Her godmother Mrs James Majewski hosted. Guests included her mother Mrs Lou Franke, Miss Andres Marzen, Malinda Jones, Mrs Martin Jones and Tara of Charles City. Mr and Mrs Jerry Johnson and family from Robbinsdale Minnesota visited Ed Mar ten and Mrs Helen Johnson.

Greene area notes the Wartburg College Artist Series launching October 1 with the National Ballet of Canada performing the Nutcracker in Neumann Auditorium. The program includes La Traviata in English by the Goldovsky Grand Opera Theater and a repeat of the New York Pro Musica. Celia Franca directs forty dancers and twenty-five musicians, with Robert Merrill to sing, Malcolm Fraser at the piano, and George Crum conducting.
