Service airman Wiele completes basic training in Texas

In Service Airman Darrel D. Wiele, son of Mr and Mrs Fred M Wiele of Dougherty, has completed basic training at Jackland Air Force Base in Texas. He is assigned to Chanute AFB in Illinois for aircraft maintenance training. Wiele is a graduate of Sheffield-Chapin High School.

Final Report on Red Cross Drive and Board Update

A total of $274.06 was collected from Greene by Claire Curtis, chairman of the American National Red Cross for this area. The Butler County Chapter annual meeting re elected Claire Curtis to the Board for three years and she will serve as second vice chairman.

Rites Held For Carl Hermann 76 Near Roseville

Carl James Hermann 76 died at his Roseville area home on August 6. He was born February 5, 1993, in Floyd County to Peter and Mary nee Merfeld and farmed in the rural Roseville area. He is survived by his wife Mary a son Rev C P Hermann of DeSmet SD three daughters Florence Kadro Dubuque Beatrice Kay Hermann Rockford and Joan Mazaurek Tabor SD four sisters Anna Staudt Marble Rock Mary Staudt Greene Margaret Staudt Charles City Katherine Piordan Charles City and seven grandchildren. Services were held August 9 at St Marys Catholic Church Roseville with Rev Vincent Simon and Rev C P Hermano officiating. Burial followed at St Marys Cemetery Roseville with Reid's Funeral Chapel in charge.

Herbert McCulla 85 died at Chautauqua Home Charles City on August 3. Born November 2, 1883 near Lyle Minnesota to Alexander and Inanee White McCulla he lived on a farm and was educated in St Ansgar Public School. He married Vivian Mather January 1, 1908. they lived on his father’s farm then worked at Mason City Hardware Osage Kingsbury Hardware Greene Pooley Hardware and Mel's TV Service. Vivian died March 1, 1957. he remarried October 15, 1961 to Ella Larson of St Ansgar. Survivors include his wife a stepdaughter Mrs Raymond Feldt Minneapolis and sister Mrs Vivian Bramhall Mason City. Preceded by parents wife infant sister Nina two sisters Amy McCulla and Ethel Mulier and a step-son Duane Larson. Funeral was held August 6 at Reid's Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev Paul Metzger. burial in St Ansgar Cemetery.

A routine audit by Mr. Thomas M. Scott of the Department of Social Services reviews Butler County Welfare records from November 1, 1966, to March 5, 1969. Total aid disbursement reached 1,074,504.67 with 996,529.12 covered by matching funds. Butler County share 77,775.55. Recoveries totaled 18,008.27, with 3,736.4 by county employees.

Maftin Stocker, chairman of the Butler County Extension Council, announced this week that the council has accepted the resignation of Gary Frahm as county extension director. Frahm has served since October 1967 in Butler County and previously worked with extension in Hancock County. The position has not been filled, but the council will make every effort to do so.
