Mrs. William Edeker 82 died Saturday after a lingering illness at Allen Memorial Hospital Waterloo. Survivors include husband five daughters two sons 26 grandchildren 39 great grandchildren and a sister. Services Monday at St John’s Lutheran Clarksville burial Lynwood Cemetery Clarksville.
In Service Airman Darrel D. Wiele, son of Mr and Mrs Fred M Wiele of Dougherty, has completed basic training at Jackland Air Force Base in Texas. He is assigned to Chanute AFB in Illinois for aircraft maintenance training. Wiele is a graduate of Sheffield-Chapin High School.
A total of $274.06 was collected from Greene by Claire Curtis, chairman of the American National Red Cross for this area. The Butler County Chapter annual meeting re elected Claire Curtis to the Board for three years and she will serve as second vice chairman.
Goodwill Industries will stop at the Methodist Church on Wednesday, August 20, for pickups in the area. Acceptable items include old clothing without shoes, bedding, towels, electric appliances, dishes, small furniture, and other small goods.
Carl James Hermann 76 died at his Roseville area home on August 6. He was born February 5, 1993, in Floyd County to Peter and Mary nee Merfeld and farmed in the rural Roseville area. He is survived by his wife Mary a son Rev C P Hermann of DeSmet SD three daughters Florence Kadro Dubuque Beatrice Kay Hermann Rockford and Joan Mazaurek Tabor SD four sisters Anna Staudt Marble Rock Mary Staudt Greene Margaret Staudt Charles City Katherine Piordan Charles City and seven grandchildren. Services were held August 9 at St Marys Catholic Church Roseville with Rev Vincent Simon and Rev C P Hermano officiating. Burial followed at St Marys Cemetery Roseville with Reid's Funeral Chapel in charge.

The Greene High School class of 1949 will hold a 20th year reunion with a banquet at Bishops Club Iowa on Saturday evening August 16 at 7 30. A potluck picnic for class members and their families will be held at Perrin Park on Sunday August 17 at noon.
Mr and Mrs Larry Jepsen of Bristow are the parents of a daughter born August 6 at St Josephs Mercy Hospital in Waverly. The baby weighed 8 pounds 13 ounces and is named Valerie Ann. Grandparents are Mrs Lawrence Jepsen of Greene and Mr and Mrs Delmer Greenlee of Shell Rock.
Mr Earl Schroeder underwent surgery Thursday morning August 7 at Mercy Hospital in Mason City. He is reported in stable condition with no complications noted.

The Greene Men’s Bowling Association will hold a meeting at El-Bar Lanes on Thursday evening, August 14, at 8:00 p m. Team meetings will follow the association meeting.
The Farm Service Loop announces Wayne Ritter will be the new petroleum tankwagon salesman in Greene effective August 1. He replaces Aaron Jewell who has accepted an assistant manager and fieldman post with Greene Farm Equipment and Agriculture Co. The Ritter family has moved to 119 N Main Street, Greene.
Francis Grendler son of Mr and Mrs August Grendler has been a Rath Packing Company salesman in the San Francisco area for six years and is transferred to the Waterloo office He will handle the Eagle Stores account in east central Iowa calling on Waterloo Cedar Rapids Iowa City and the quad cities and nearby towns He has resided in Sacramento for three years and began his new duties August 4 now residing in Waterloo
Herbert McCulla 85 died at Chautauqua Home Charles City on August 3. Born November 2, 1883 near Lyle Minnesota to Alexander and Inanee White McCulla he lived on a farm and was educated in St Ansgar Public School. He married Vivian Mather January 1, 1908. they lived on his father’s farm then worked at Mason City Hardware Osage Kingsbury Hardware Greene Pooley Hardware and Mel's TV Service. Vivian died March 1, 1957. he remarried October 15, 1961 to Ella Larson of St Ansgar. Survivors include his wife a stepdaughter Mrs Raymond Feldt Minneapolis and sister Mrs Vivian Bramhall Mason City. Preceded by parents wife infant sister Nina two sisters Amy McCulla and Ethel Mulier and a step-son Duane Larson. Funeral was held August 6 at Reid's Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev Paul Metzger. burial in St Ansgar Cemetery.
Barbara Kruger daughter of Mr and Mrs Merle Kruger was admitted to University Hospital in Iowa City on Monday for observation and possible surgery. Her address is University Hospital Room C-41 Iowa City. Dale Willey of Ankeny is a patient in Methodist Hospital Des Moines where he has been since July 31.
A routine audit by Mr. Thomas M. Scott of the Department of Social Services reviews Butler County Welfare records from November 1, 1966, to March 5, 1969. Total aid disbursement reached 1,074,504.67 with 996,529.12 covered by matching funds. Butler County share 77,775.55. Recoveries totaled 18,008.27, with 3,736.4 by county employees.

One of the best Horse and Pony pulling contests in the Midwest will be held at the National Dairy Cattle Congress in Waterloo Iowa this fall with events September 20 to 28 1969. Contests indoors at the Hippodrome feature lightweight horses middleweight intermediate ponies and heavies large ponies on specified September dates. Admission is free after gate entry for all entertainment events at the show.

SSG James L. Curtis arrived home for a short visit with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Gene D. Curtis before returning to Washington DC where he studies Chinese at the Defense Language Institute. He and his family have lived in the Washington area for the past year and will remain until his course concludes in May 1970.
Cora Wright will celebrate her 80th birthday on Sunday at Mathers Nursing Home. On Monday Fred Blass will mark his 97th birthday at the same facility.
Maftin Stocker, chairman of the Butler County Extension Council, announced this week that the council has accepted the resignation of Gary Frahm as county extension director. Frahm has served since October 1967 in Butler County and previously worked with extension in Hancock County. The position has not been filled, but the council will make every effort to do so.
