Passing of a Veteran Delaney Parker Laid to Rest
The longtime Cleveland county resident and Civil War veteran Captain Delaney Parker was interred at Union Cemetery in Town Ship No 8 after a missionary Baptist service. He led a Confederate company at Chickamauga, lost his right arm, and remained an unrepentant Lost Cause defender and model of personal liberty. At 92, he would have reached 93 in July, remembered for courage, fortitude, and blunt honesty, and for aiding Mormon missionaries at his home despite neighbor hostility. Courtneys Ten Cent Store advertised memorial wreaths and sprays.
