Community Fair Plans At Ellenboro Meeting May 21
Ellenboro Chamber of Commerce will discuss the 1930 community fair next Wednesday evening May 21 at 8 pm. All township and county residents are urged to attend and help organize. An entertainment string band is arranged, and officers and directors will be elected. The 1929 Colfax Fair was a success and organizers aim to make this year’s fair bigger and better with broad cooperation. Members and nonmembers are urged to attend.

Meeting of the Community Woman's Club
The Community Woman's Club was delightfully entertained at the home of Mrs. A. C. Lovelace in Caroleen with hostesses Mrs. Lovelace Mrs. Walter Haynes Mrs. Robert Bland and Mrs. M. B. Mahaffee The program closed the summer season with music and art performances and two of Miss Alice Smiths paintings on display. New members were elected and planning begun for the next year with delegates to Pinehurst district meeting. A special meeting will be held next Monday to conclude business and welcome new members. Severe hailstorm hits Broad River region and surrounding counties
A massive hail storm battered the area from near Poors Ford on Broad River to Buck Shoals on the second Broad River, affecting Cleveland Cherokee and Spartanburg counties. Reports say hail fell for hours with depths of several inches and even two to three feet in highway ditches. Crops were torn up and foliage stripped from trees as forests lost leaves.

Raleigh May 14 funeral services for George B Justice of this place were conducted at his home and interment followed at Oakwood cemetery He died Sunday after a brief illness A Rutherford County native he had been an assistant state commissioner of labor and printing and had made Raleigh his home He is survived by his widow three sons his mother two brothers and two sisters He was 50 years old.

Legion Posts Will Honor War Dead
The American Legion Posts of Forest City and Rutherfordton will place wreaths on every World War veteran grave in Rutherford County on Memorial Day May 30. Special committees will locate graves and request wreath donations from county residents. Flower donors should bring blooms on May 29 for distribution. Veterans with unmarked graves or without family to place a marker may have a government marker applied for, via Clarence Griffin at The Courier office.

Mrs Florence Medford Died Friday in Forest City R-2
Mrs Florence Medford aged 59 died at her Forest City R-2 home Friday morning at 7 o'clock after a stroke of paralysis following months of ill health. Funeral services were held Saturday at Bethany Baptist Church at 2 pm, Rev. C. C. Matheny presiding. Interment in Bethany cemetery. Survived by husband Joe Medford, eight children, one brother and mother Mrs Mode. Flower bearers listed.
