County Highway Chiefs Meet at Pierre for Marking Plan

South Dakota county highway superintendents will meet at Pierre on March 28 and 29 to discuss a uniform system of marking county highways. D A McKinnon says talks will cover marking on state trunk routes, with district engineers and county commissioners invited. State highway department officials will lead sessions on policy, maintenance, and the new legislation affecting counties and towns.

Secretary to discuss workers compensation in highway work

The late highway commission secretary will speak on workmen's compensation and its applicability to highway employment. With the opening of spring construction on the highways, policy and maintenance problems for the coming season will share attention with the topic of consideration. The county will be invited to provide questions or suggestions on these endeavors.

Two Faculty Openings Foreseen in Blunt Schools

Blunt March 14 Special teachers reelected to positions in Blunt schools. It is believed there will be two vacancies next fall. Miss Elmira Olson, teaching second and third grades, seeks a job near her eastern state home. Principal Mr Heheter plans to return to the University of South Dakota for further study this fall.

Nine killed in spring tornado near Six Mile South Carolina

A tornado struck a Six Mile area near Greenville South Carolina killing nine people and injuring others. The storm demolished four homes a cotton gin a church and a Baptist academy with deputy sheriff G Nelse Garrett his wife and three children among the dead. An infant was blown 300 yards but survived. Medical aid rushed to the scene as residents mistook the roar for thunder.
