Holbrook outlines progress in field of wastes at Huron chamber

County Judge B S McCluskey will lead the Huron Chamber of Commerce as president for the coming year. Royal H Holbrook of Iowa State College spoke to nearly 300 members about commercial use of corn by products in paper making. He cited rapid advances, stresses the need for abundant water, and noted challenges in harvesting and marketing cornstalks. He urged continued Iowa State research to solve these problems.

Cave Outlines Beef Outlook At Dearborn Club Meeting

R A Cave county agent led a Dearborn Sunshine Baby Beef club session discussing baby beef prospects and price trends for the coming year. Nine members attended at Chris Barth’s home while Ed Simantel demonstrated rope halter making. Waldo Smith to contribute April story to The Weronite. All 13 members now own calves and feed a corn oats and alfalfa hay ration. The April meeting will be at Cart Simantel’s home.

Electrician Edel Sentenced to Death for Actress Harrington Slaying

Frederick W. Edel, 29, a retired electrician, was found guilty of murdering actress Emeline Harrington in her New York apartment on December 23. He offered no defense and was sentenced to die in the electric chair at Sing Sing, with execution set for the week of April 23. Edel was captured in St Paul, Minnesota.

Attaches Ride On Liquor Trucks In Washington Ruling

A diplomatic attache rode in and drove a privately hired liquor truck into Washington city to import shipments. Police had warned truck owners immunity credentials were required, but the attache traveled in plain clothes with the shipment, not stopped along the route.

Byrd Relays Message From Sub Base Near South Pole

A message from Byrd's southern radio sub base near Little America reports “Everything fine” as a dog sled party carries provisions 70 miles south. The note to Mrs. Hjordis Peterson of Chicago was sent via Carl Peterson and relayed through New York and Dunedin to the Times. Byrd maintains main base about 750 miles from the pole with several sub bases for emergencies.

Leaders Prepare Girls Club Training in Hand County

Miss Dewing announces Tuesday conference for leaders of girls 4 clubs in Hand county. She leaves Monday for Mand county to run women's clubs training schools through the week. A Friday session at Cavour was postponed due to bad roads, and a postponed school date is now set for Tuesday March 26.

Mrs Stegeman of Wolsey died following a heart disease. Services will be held at Wolsey and burial will be in the Lutheran cemetery. She was Stegeman at Wolsey in 1887 and lived there most of her life. Missing tooth key to February gang mass murder case

In Chicago on March 14 a man with a missing front tooth claimed to be George Buchanan and faced possible identification in the February 14 mass murder at a beer depot raid. Bruce Caldwell, president of the school board, observed the gang lineup noting one man’s missing tooth. eight men were detained in the raid tied to the Al Capone era activity.

Blast Wrecks Madison Italian Section in Liquor War

A blast rocked Madison's Italian section early today, destroying a two story building and hindering police searches for Nathan Trofa and his 13 year old niece. Fire followed the blast and investigators say the building was bombed in a liquor war.

Col Charles A Lindbergh ends a three week stay with fiancee Misa Anne Morrow in Mexico City and departs for Brownsville at 4 37 a m. A prior landing mishap at Val Buena Feb 27 and engine trouble delayed the tour. He flies a regular air sail plane between Mexico City and Brownsville with co pilot H Vincent. Anne Morrow was not along and no Morrows were present.
