Heppner Flood Relief Efforts Grow As Bodies Found

June reports from Heppner detail rapid sanitary measures and burial needs after a devastating flood. Eighteen bodies recovered since yesterday, 850000 needed for relief, burying the dead feeding the destitute and sheltering orphans. Knights Donate Fifty Dollars To Heppner Sufferers

Knights of Pythias voted to donate fifty dollars from lodge funds to a Heppner disaster sufferer. Foresters and Women Woodcraft also contributed ten dollars and fifteen dollars respectively. Other lodges plan similar aid as soon as possible.

Lightning Conductor A M Brown Survives Barbed Wire Strike

Crook county resident A M Brown narrowly escaped death when a lightning flash traveled along a barbed wire fence and struck his shoulder as he crawled through a fence crack at the Meyer and Brown ranch. The bolt passed through his body and into the ground. he suffered a large red mark and temporary paralysis but recovered.

Former Eugene Man Drowned in River Tragedy

A San Francisco paper reports former Eugene resident John J. Easter twenty three died while bathing in the Coyote river after cramps. His brother in law Frank Burdeck tried to rescue him and nearly lost his own life. Easter, a Canadian, left a widow and child.

Leach Bride Weds Morris at Coburg in 1903

Miss Sadie C. Leach married Mr. Joseph W. Morris of Gold Hill Oregon at the bride’s parents home near Coburg. Ceremony conducted by Geo A Drury J P. A large gathering from Harrisburg and local families attended followed by a bountiful repast. The couple will reside in Gold Hill and were greeted with many presents and well wishes for a long, happy life.

Eugene Philanthropy drives relief for Heppner flood victims

A committee led by Mayor Gilliam and Dr. D A Paine has nearly finished gathering funds for Heppner cloudburst sufferers. Funds totaling 7733 were raised with 700 telegraphed to Mayor Gilliam yesterday. the balance and remaining gifts will be sent Monday. Contributions are welcome at local banks and committee members.

Smith Handsaker wedding at Christian church

The Daily Guard reports the marriage of Miss Alice Smith to Mr John Handsaker at the Christian church with Rev T B Handsaker officiating. Mendelssohn wedding march by Vesta Fecon and Paul Stauffer accompanied the couple into the ceremony. The bride wore white silk and carried a shower bouquet. The newlyweds left for Turner for a few days and have not decided their future home. In Eugene on June 16 a son was born to Dudley and Mrs Cornell.
