Man Dies After Falling Cedar Accident Near Lowell

C P Jacobs, named in yesterday’s Guard as injured by a falling tree at Williams’ logging camp near Lowell, died yesterday afternoon. The 49 year old man from Nebraska was struck by a maple that toppled with the cedar he cut, after hours of unconsciousness. His body goes to Ashland for burial. he leaves a wife and four children. A Fall Creek telephone station opens with J H Kissinger as agent as Pacific States Co lines expand countywide toward Blue River mines and Florence.

Victim Found After Night in Humble Home

In San Francisco an elderly widow Mrs. Emma K Loring was found dead on the floor beside her bed with the body badly decomposed, suggesting death about a month ago. A foul odor noticed by a visitor prompted the inspection.

Child Drowns In Cesspool Morning Tragedy In San Francisco

Scripps News Association reports Earl Vermhern aged one year fell into a cesspool two feet deep and drowned this morning in San Francisco. The same dispatch notes the receiver of bankrupt Eppinger wheat shipping firm says creditors likely recover only about ten percent of claims.

Market for our dried fruit discussed in agent note

W E Coman of the Southern Pacific informs Agent Adair that US Consul Ridgley in Nantes reports France’s failed deciduous fruit crop has created strong demand for dried fruits. Merchants seek direct dealings avoiding middlemen at Antwerp Hamburg and Liverpool. Ridgley will receive shippers’ communications to reach interested buyers. Negotiations should open immediately.

Pretty Wedding Unites Daisy Dillard and John Patterson

Lane's Exhibit Appreciated in Eugene Visit

A. LeRoy of Portland for the Oregon Information Bureau toured Eugene, praising Lane county’s resources exhibit at the union depot. He announced the display is among the best, with plans to add fruit and mineral specimens and ship more immigration booklets to promote county opportunities.

Cannery Begins Operation at Eugene Factory

The Eugene Cannery started this season with twenty workers, mostly women, sorting and packing fruit. The workforce will rise to around seventy as the cherry rush begins, starting with early black cherries before Royal Ann. W. G. Allen oversees operations ensuring neatness and quality as production scales up.

New Two Story Brick Building Planned on East Ninth Street

Odd Fellows Give A Hundred At Spencer Butte Lodge

At the Spencer Butte lodge No. 0 J O O F regular meeting last night it was voted to donate 100 to the Lieppner relief fund. The amount was sent to B B Sharon secretary of the grand lodge in Portland to forward to Heppner. Eugene has contributed subscriptions for the flood district near Heppner with over 1000 already sent from here and more expected.

Sister of Mrs Darling Dies Telegram From Everett Wash

House Fire Destroys Home on College Hill

A house owned by Washauer on College Hill burned early this morning around 4 30 o clock. The structure and all contents were destroyed. A nearby wood house and several cords of wood also burned. Water was unavailable as the well pump failed when the fire attacked the well. Probable cause cited as a defective flue. Insurance of 200 was held with Oregon Fire Relief Association of McMinnville. Few residents witnessed the blaze at that early hour.
