Action urged as algae chokes Coleman Kelly Lake
State biologist Jess Van Dyke urges residents to organize and hire a private applicator to combat dense filamentous algae in Coleman Kelly Lake and Lake Kell-Aire. He ties nutrient pollution to Destin Water Users sewage plant and percolation ponds while noting copper herbicide is a short term fix and lake restoration requires public pressure for upgraded wastewater treatment.

Groups Merge To Fight Drainage Plan At Airport Road
Two groups opposed to Okaloosa County’s proposed drainage along Airport Road will unite for a single state administrative hearing. J R Bowman of Bell-Aire Gardens Property Owners Association said about 200 property owners join with Joe’s Bayou and Lake Bell-Aire residents to press county officials on rerouted water flows and permits. They plan to ask why stormwater piping under Airport Road leads into Lake Bell-Aire, and whether a DEP stormwater permit was obtained. A single hearing officer and date will be issued after the merger notification to the Department of Administrative Hearings.
