Aeration alone not cure for Destin Harbor lagoon ills
A 65 page Destin Harbor report by Jessica Van Dyke of the state Department of Natural Resources finds aerators raise dissolved oxygen and lower salinity but nutrient pollution from sewage and stormwater must be reduced to prevent fish kills. Eight units tested in Sandpiper Cove showed deeper water gaining oxygen during operation. after shutdown, benefits faded. The report recommends two more diffusers and system design fixes, with future studies on algal blooms as early warnings.
