Live baiting around oil rigs sparks Destin billfish bite
Capt Ricky Hayles on Tacke started slow live-bait trolling after two Gulf rigs were set in June and has logged about a dozen billfish with around fifty more sighted. Capt Tommy Green on Phoenix notes productive trips using two baits near rigs 42 and 50 miles from East Pass, targeting blue marlin white marlin sailfish wahoo and tuna while dodging sharks. Green says four more rigs planned to boost Destin area billfishing, with grounds around the Spur Nipple and Steps.
