The Farmer township board of education votes to submit to voters at the November election a plan to centralize schools. If approved, nine districts with small red schoolhouses would be replaced by a central campus near Farmer Center with transport for students beyond half a mile. Centralization aims for uniform grading, better supervision, and grade separation, a model seen in other townships in the state.

In Riverside cemetery the Defiance Masons unveiled a granite arch monument to Judge Jacob J Greene. The ceremony featured Knights Templar, a choir, and address by Sir Knight S L Roberts, praising Greene as a mentor, editor, probate judge, and lifelong Mason. He died June 27 1894 after fifty years in the city.

Death of Mrs McBroom
Mrs Hazel McBroom widow of Robert McBroom died Thursday afternoon at her home on Washington Street aged 25 years. She leaves two young children. Her husband died over a year ago of consumption and she soon contracted the same disease. She was the daughter of Mr and Mrs John Sauber of Holgate Avenue. The funeral was held Saturday at 9 from St Marys Catholic Church with Rev John Collins officiating. Interment followed in Riverside cemetery.
