Houck denounced Cox and the Cox machine while Welty criticized Henrik and praised the flag. both speeches offered generalities and failed to sway voters. Meanwhile, M. Pierce plans to move his family to Paulding after purchasing a stake in J B Fridley’s harness business.

The Gardner Company advances the Cincinnati Toledo & Detroit Short Line from Toledo toward Cincinnati with 220 miles of single track. Engineering chief is T Rhys Smith, consulting engineer, and The Gardner Company leads construction with 70 pound steel rails on private right of way. Defiance street railway purchase and power for first fifty miles secured. rights of way and franchises nearly assured. The project links ten county seats and seven interurban connections, aiming high speed and freight access, with financing arranged through eastern bankers.

Funeral of Gerald Cooper
The funeral for Gerald Cooper, young son of Mr. and Mrs. George Cooper, who died after being struck by a car in the B and O yards on Saturday, was held Monday at the Cooper home on Clinton street. Rev. Smucker of St. Pauls ME church officiated. The Sunday school class mates served as pallbearers: George Wat king Jr, Rollin Gleason, Bartlett Emery, Edwin Fuller, Russell Savage, Laird Roberts, Edward Switzer. Burial followed at Riverside cemetery.

Runaway Accidents and Valley News From Ayersville Road to Paulding
Two young men escaped injury when a buggy overturned on Ayersville avenue near George Streicher’s residence as a speed test ended with a ditch. Miss Louisa Sweinhagen and Miss Hattie Dunbar also suffered bruises in a river road runaway after wheels locked with another rig. Separately, a Dittenhaver Bros hay barn burned at Paulding, destroying baled hay and tools, with $2500 loss.

Boy Killed Near B&O Yards in Clinton Street District
Eleven year old Gerald Cooper was killed Saturday at 10 30 am in the B and O railroad yards opposite the Standard Oil plant. He was found with a severed left leg after being struck by a freight car wheel and death was instantaneous. The boy, son of Mr and Mrs George Cooper, lived at 1050 Clinton street. The coroner viewed the remains and funeral services were held Monday afternoon.
