The adjourned city council met Friday night with all members present except McKnight. An ordinance on a gas and electric plant was tabled, the water works proposal rescinded on legality doubts, and a Washington Street sidewalk grade was established before adjournment.

Farmer township will vote on centralizing schools at the November election. If approved, it would abolish nine district schools and establish one or two central sites with transport from the school fund. Local social events fill week with gatherings and gifts
The BNIT ladies hosted Mrs Morrie Lynde Thursday afternoon while the Athenian Literary Society entertained Friday evening at the college. Bertha Clark and Gertrude Hughes attended gatherings with whist and refreshments, thimble parties, euchre, and Salmagundi sessions featuring Holland and student life. Notable events included a Julia Wilsberg birthday party with gifts, visits from out of town guests, and multiple dinners, musicales, and prize awards. The community also noted illnesses, travel, and a cancellation of the annual police ball to support firefighters.

In Riverside Cemetery the Defiance Masons unveiled a granite monument to Judge Jacob J Greene. The arch shaped stone bears the inscription Jacob J Greene with the square and compass. About one hundred Masons and Knights Templar attended the ceremony with drum corps, a quartet, and hymns, including Blessed Be the Light. Reverend B W Slagle gave the invocation and Sir Knight J R Roberts delivered the eulogy praising Greene’s life and Masonry.

Death of Mrs McBroom in Washington Street Home
Mrs Hazel McBroom widow of Robert McBroom died Thursday afternoon at her Washington Street home at age 25. She leaves two young children. Her husband died a year ago of consumption, which Mrs McBroom contracted, leading to her death. She was the daughter of Mr and Mrs John Sauber of Holgate Avenue. Funeral was Saturday at 9 from St Mary’s Catholic Church with Rev John Collins officiating. Interment followed at Riverside Cemetery. Thomas Bentley of Toledo visited with his in law Mrs Bentley, guest of Dr and Mrs N Lewis. she returned home Monday.
