Inheritance Tax Law Clarified for Public
The office addresses questions about the inheritance tax law and warns against false claims. It cautions laborers that the common assertion of a two percent tax on small estates is incorrect and urges citizens to seek accurate information.
Inheritance Tax Law Aims to Relieve Tax-Paying Citizens
Records show Defiance county has paid no inheritance tax under the law, and in many counties little or no tax has been collected from small estates. The measure targets large estates and untaxed holdings, aiming to relieve those who already bear taxes while preserving relief for taxpayers. Gov Herrick supported the law, noting it reached property with unpaid taxes and did not burden small estates.
