Mr. Philadelphia Shines in Wisconsin Birding Trip Tale

A solo note from The Country Today describes aDoor County field trip led by Mr. Philadelphia Robbins of Medford and Dorchester. Amid 25 of 150 observers, the group navigated dunes and marsh, identified warblers, and briefly misidentified a vireo until a rare Philadelphia vireo delighted all. The piece notes Robbins is a UCC pastor and Milwaukee Public Museum research associate authoring a Wisconsin birds book.

Loon nesting season warned as holiday crowds rise

Wiscons in Project Loon Watch warns that loons nesting along shorelines are highly vulnerable to human intrusion during Ashland Memorial Day weekend and the ensuing weeks. Boaters and anglers should give space to prevent nest disturbance, chilling or drowning risks. Fewer than 3,000 adult loons remain in Wisconsin with about 400 young per year, and at least 40 percent may not survive their first summer.
