Hank Thompson leaves weighty land use legacy
Hank Thompson, after nearly 40 years as a soils technician for the USDA Soil Conservation Service in Trempealeau County, will retire and leave a lasting impact through field work and neighborly outreach. A June 7 recognition dinner at Club Midway, Independence, will honor his work. donations and letters of appreciation are sought by May 31, with tickets $6.50.

Land Rent Auction Yields Modest Interest in Rock Falls
About 25 people attended a first land rent auction in Rock Falls for 220 acres of William H. Sperstad’s former home farm. Sperstad and son Billy conducted the sale in seven parcels with most leases going to Howard Cleasby of Eleva. The Sperstads plan a June Centennial Reunion at Rock Creek Lutheran Church as part of family memory of the farm.

A farm forum on June 2 sponsored by Pierce County farm groups will feature Congressman Steve Gunderson and Sen William Proxmire. The event starts at 8 30 p m at the Pierce Pepin REA building in Ellsworth with opening remarks and a question and answer session open to the public. It marks one of Proxmire's few west central Wisconsin appearances in recent years.
