Columbus Volunteer Firemen and Auxiliary along with Columbus Tapettes representatives gathered last evening at the firehall to plan a community fair. The gathering focused on event logistics, volunteer roles, and safety measures for a forthcoming Columbus event.
The YMCA hosted a Howell session with winners Mrs. F H Barthelme, Mrs. John Pierce, and others. Corry Bridge Association held a four table Howell session at the Corry Motor Inn with top teams from Jamestown and Union City. Corry Grange reviewed routine business and upcoming visitation and programs. A foreign exchange student from New Zealand spoke at Corry Area High School with guests from Waterford and East Branch Granges. A chess tournament in Sarajevo ended with Bronstein and Matulovic sharing first place. Planning for the Columbus Community Fair on June 25–26 was noted. An April 11 belated 40th wedding anniversary open house for Glenn and Mable Babcock was announced at Elgin Beaverdam Fire Company with details for display space.
Mr. and Mrs. Louis H. Potter have returned to 958 East South Street after a winter in Avon Park Florida. They visited Punta Gorda Petersburg and Mount Dora and saw former Corry residents Claude Stearns and James Beagle during the trip.
A baby shower for Lori Marie Hotchkiss and her mother Mrs. James Hotchkiss, of Springboro, Pa., was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Bailey. Hosts included Miss Barbara Damico and Mrs. Marge McClymont and Mrs. Bailey. Guests from Erie, Corry, Columbus, Meadville, Union City, Cortland, and nearby towns attended. Lori received many gifts, and other local events included a Cub Scouts get acquainted meeting at the Reed home and an Air Force officer's assignment in Southeast Asia.
Mrs D Hammerlee hosted a Circle meeting featuring devotions on Resurrection by Mrs Ed Curry. Curry read passages, discussed prejudice behind Christ’s crucifixion and current bias, aided by three girls. Dessert was served by Mrs Hammerlee and Mrs Curry. next meeting May 4 at Mrs Webb McCray’s Union Street home.
Mrs Clair Stile of R D 1 Columbus hosted Epsilon Phi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi with Mrs James Gruca as cohostess. They planned Easter baskets for nursing homes and a $50 donation to Corry Public Library. Discussion included a mother and daughter banquet on May 16. Elections set for March 23 with Krahe as president and Hasbrouck as treasurer. The next meeting April 20 will be at Mrs Richard Gambino's home with Hasbrouck cohosting.
