Funding Seen For Corry Urban Renewal This Year

House Nixos Boost. Passes School Aid Bill

AP reports the House narrowly defeated a bid to greatly increase federal education aid. A $4.8 billion Education Office bill passed 354 to 7 and moves to the Senate, with $131 million more than the President’s request. An amendment to add $728 million failed 191 to 187 amid broad Education Coalition support. A separate provision would fund $167 million more than requested for districts with federal personnel. In Pittsburgh, James A. Baker, 26, was found stabbed to death near Shady Side Academy.

Nixon Orders 100000 More Vietnam Troops Home By December

President Nixon increased the pace of U S troop withdrawals to about 14 300 a month aiming to reduce total U S forces to about 104 000, lowest in six years, while rejecting a fixed withdrawal date. Easter Bunny Answers Letter From Brier Hill Boy

Timothy McRanald 6 of Pittsburgh wrote to the Easter Bunny asking for a soldier set, a record, a doll, and a stuffed animal. The letter was routed to Brier Hill’s postmaster and owner of a seven-family town, who sent back an Easter card and note stating the Bunny and Santa Claus will try to grant the wishes. The boy’s mother says she knew of the letter but not its mailing. The post office is described as a tiny 12 by 15 foot facility claimed to be the smallest east of the Mississippi.

Escapees From Rockview State Prison Predicted On Burglary

Corry city and State Police search for two escapees from Rockview State Correctional Institution at Bellefonte. David L. Buell 27 Union City address and Wilson Wynn 23 Jamestown, both inmates serving time on burglary and larceny. Buell described 5'10" medium build, brown hair. Wynn 5'10" dark complexion, 165 pounds. They escaped about 5:45 p.m. while loading ice cream and milk for delivery to other institutions.
