Sidney The Ladies Quilting Club met with Mrs. Emma Roberts last Friday afternoon. After the quilting, Mrs. Ector Clarx and Mrs. Frank Farquhar received friendship quilts. Hot chocolate and cake were served to thirty three ladies. Several local visits and weekend gatherings are noted among residents, including families from Winters Lingleville Abilene and Stephenville visiting relatives and friends.
Bible Mrs. Arthur Jaynes of Peters burg visited her sister Mrs. A. C. Kilgore and many relatives from Canyon Balls Ballinger Comanche Sipe Springs Stag Creek and Ballinger joined Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Cox for a dinner celebrating their forty ninth wedding anniversary. Families including the Coxes Jake Field Grandma Denny and Henry Drennan shared the Sunday visit.
Cotton Grove guests included Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Wilson of Sidney and Mr. and Mrs. G. M. Spivey with Lane Spivey. Other visitors were Mr. and Mrs. Addie Janes of Ralls, Mr. and Mrs. Almer Kilgore of Bibb, and many locals at the W. T. Coker home. Singing followed the afternoon visit, while Carl Milner and J. A. Rogers later attended a pecan meeting in Sidney.
A cemetery working is scheduled at Union Cemetery on May 5. D. M. Johnson of Gustine urges full attendance of those interested.
Alvin Davis and sister in Hasse hosted part of last week. Mrs. Raleigh Hayes of Pottsville visited her mother, Mrs. Miriam Hawkins, over the weekend. Mrs. Claude Wyche returned from a German hospital operation and is recovering well. Carlton visitors included Mr. and Mrs. Earl Barnett. Mrs. E. C. Estes attended the Stock Show in Carlton with nine family members. The Adams family of Hamilton visited M. E. Barnett and daughter Sunday. Horace Aplewhite and family visited Mrs. M. G. McDonald. McDonald also visited her mother, Mrs. Neal in Gustine Saturday.
The farm home of Mr. and Mrs Basil McPherson in Energy was destroyed by fire Wednesday night. the house was discovered ablaze and very little of the household goods were saved.
Blanket Mr and Mrs Hal Manor and daughter Evelyn Joe of Austin were weekend guests of G C Manor. Miss Cleo Bird of De Leon visited her parents L F Bird. Frank Mackley of St Louis spent last week visiting daughter R V Allen and Melvin Eddings family. Marshall Fox executive visited. A H Williams returned after months in Port Arthur. Elmer Simpson and daughter of Big Spring visited relatives. Sol Baker of Brownwood visited Hobson family. Robert Ferguson and family of Rising Star were guests.
Mrs J W Franklin hosted weekend guests while Mrs T E Levisay entertained for her son B Norris fourteenth birthday. The Women s Missionary Society met at Mrs J W Franklin in a study on the book of India led by Mrs Chas Cobb. The Baptist Missionary Union held a shower at Mrs Buford Powers home for Mrs W F Boler with a refreshment plate served to 40 guests.
Soda Springs residents Mary Lizzy Fisher Beattie and Dorothy Lee Cottrell Suez visited Thelma Helm Tuesday evening. Travis Linsley Suez called on Leon Nichols. Nina B. Cates Beattie spent Friday with Faye Jones. School closed Friday and dinner was served on the ground. J B Horton Beattie stayed Thursday night with Leon Sledge. Louis McMillan Bibb visited Jeannie Carter Friday. Clyde Reid De Leon called on G J Matthews Friday.
John Elkins 67 former Comanche resident died in Cisco Monday after a prolonged illness. Funeral services were held at his residence with Rev. Joe Patterson officiating. Interment followed in Cisco Cemetery. Survived by wife Addie Reagan and siblings L F Elkins Minnie Elkins A W Elkins Claude Elkins Mrs Jess Session and Mrs John Sherman. Aline died during World War I. Father W F Elkins of Plainview also survives.
Rev Odis Holady of Brownwood led a service with the Life Savers Band from Howard Payne College. Local families and visitors attended church Sunday. The Mercer Gap Club will present the play Hot Water here Friday night May 5 with admission of 5 and 10 cents.
The Blanket Chapter of Future Farmers of America closed their jackrabbit killing contest on April 20. Winners include Grady Blackmon 93, Drew Boff 79, Willie Cockrell 3, B. C. Robison 2, and Barnie Payson Jr. 1. The winner receives a prize from the chapter.

Survived by husband and six year old Freddie Gene, and by her parents Mr and Mrs Welch of Gustine and Mrs Mackie Johnson of Sywater Texas.
