Owens to vote on school bond Saturday

An Owens election will be held Saturday in the school district of Brown Ey to approve a bond issue. The bonds would supplement insurance funds to replace the Owens four room school destroyed by a recent fire.
The report notes an eight month term will end today as per Superintendent Dale Ho. An all day program is planned with dinner served in the evening hours.
ITOR SCHOOL CLOSING PROGRAM IS ANNOUNCED. Students take examinations as term ends. A holiday Friday afternoon is planned. Juniors plan a picnic and a theatre party at Lake Banes. Seniors plan a wake trip to Cisco with a baccalaureate sermon on April 29.
A Sunday evening service will be held April 30 at eight o clock in Proctor Methodist Church with Rev. L Williams in charge. Graduation exercises for Grammer and High School will follow Tuesday evening May 2 at eight o clock in Proctor School auditorium with a capable speaker in charge. Buses will run Monday morning to collect students to return books and issue cards.
Ex-students of Hankins Normal College at Gorman will hold a homecoming on June 12 at Gorman, per Cyrus B. Frost, president of the ex-students association. Registration starts 9, program at 10, with a basket lunch at noon.
Fishing laws outlined by a game warden set lure license at 1.10 with county specific rules for Comanche and several Central Texas counties. A Waco meeting discussed forming a Central Texas Chamber of Commerce to address highways fertility and regional neglect, with speakers from Comanche, Burnet, De Leon and Hillsboro urging regional organization.
The Newburg Public School ends an eight months term with an all day program and picnic. A Comanche Stew will be served at noon. County Superintendent Dale Howard will deliver the address.
E. N. Stracener, a local insurance man, led the Abilene District in sales for American National Life Insurance Company during a recent competition. He wins an all expense trip plus a purse for pleasure to the National Insurance Convention on May 11 12 and 13 for him and his wife Mrs. Stracener.
A rock veneer residence for Mr and Mrs C F Denny under construction for two weeks at the Denny Cotton Yards is scheduled to be completed tomorrow. The design is attractive and convenient for Mr Denny to access his business with a rock fence and a flower garden planned.
The Comanche County Court House grant was not in the recent apportionments though hoped for inclusion in the next allotments. Most allocations were smaller than the county’s $125,000 request.
Elva Bumpas of Comanche, a student at John Tarleton College in Stephenville, is listed on the preliminary honor roll. The honor roll recognizes students carrying a full course load with no grade below 80 in any subject.
W H Smith a De Leon merchant with a 100 acre orchard and vineyard shows three perfect peach blossoms with peaches as large as quail eggs from a Frank peach tree. He calls the fruit frost resistant and notes Bruce plums and other varieties yield about half crop. The orchard draws attention for careful cultivation and promising crops of peaches grapes persimmons and berries.
The News Digest recalls Austin Texas as 100 years old last Thursday noting it began as Waterloo a town on the Colorado east bank. A five man commission chose it as Texas capital and renamed it after the father of Texas. Waterloo lay on an Indian and outlaw pass from the Rio Grande to East Texas.

Amity Amity revival at the Amity Church ended Saturday after a week of services. Local oil wells on the Smith and Robertson places reported good production. The newly organized local ball team played its first game Sunday afternoon at Mrs. Jones' place.
